According to the annual program of the Ministry of Environment Forestry and Water Administration for 2008, the World Wetlands Day was celebrated in Tirana and in Shkodra city . Activities were also organized in the framework of the trilateral project being implemented in Prespa region in south-east region of Albania. In Tirana (Capital) Press Conference of the Minister of Environment Forestry and Water Administration for the Environmental performance of the country. The Minister held a Conference in the premises of the Council of Ministers on behalf of the Albanian Government. The Minister represented some achievements on the environment protection in Albania. Shkoder City (In north of Albania , close to Shkoder lake) In Shkoder there were some activities organized in collaboration with Regional Environmental Center for South Eastern Europe , country office. The activities were organized according to the program as following 10:00 hours Hotel Rozafa: Fair of the artisan products of the community living in the area of Shkoder lake from both sides of the borders, Albania and Montenegro. Several kind of products were demonstrated and many visitors had the opportunity knowing and buying the local products. 12:30- 14:30 Hotel Grand :Symposium on the Word Wetlands Day with the participation of the local representatives, from both sides of the Shkodra Lake, media and NGOs etc. The Minister of Environment arrived from Tirana at this time. During this symposium several speeches were held as following Opening by representative of REC in Shkodra city Speeches by o Minister of Environment Forestry and Water Administrationo Prefect of Shkodra o Vice mayor of Shkodrao Presidents of the Albanian and Montenegrin Forums of Shkoder lake. In the end both representatives of the Albanian Forum and Montenegrin forum of Shkoder lake signed the memorandum of collaboration in field of the protection of the Shkoder lake |

Mission of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Water Administration (MoEFWA) is to draft and propose policies, strategies and action plans for the protection and administration of the environment, forests, waters and fisheries in order to achieve sustainable development, and to improve the quality of life and enable the country to join the European Union. The accomplishment of this mission is carried out through participation, initiation and coordination of the activities that lead to long term developments and wellbeing, by protecting the nature and raising the awareness of the public opinion. The MoEFWA’s main tasks include: implementing relevant national policies, defining priority environmental and forestry investments, development of national research programs in the environmental field, and, coordinating environmental protection-related activities of the other ministries and local authorities. The MoEFWA may propose measures for the protection and preservation of the environment, forestry and water resources and is responsible for the implementation of water policy and forestry policy. The Program of the Government for the Environment Environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources.Environmental degradation, loss of great natural values, the high level of air pollution in urban and industrial zones, massive erosion of the land, continuous damaging of the forests, pollution of the surface and maritime waters, the chaos of construction in the protected areas are major and serious problems for the development of the country and represent risks for the long term development. The Government guarantees that within 4 years, the development of the country will retake the dimensions of the sustainable development. Besides the positive effects in the improvement of the environment that will be the outcome of the fulfillment of the sector programs and policies, specific programs will be focused to the state of the environment, as follows:

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has been requested to finance a new coastal terminal for the handling of oil products north of Vlore in southern Albania. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been released for public consultation on 19 October 2007. The EIA will be disclosed for a minimum of 60 days. Each day there are engaged in fire extinguishing: - 850 persons from Forest Service which among all this hard period are on top of extinguishing attempts.
- 120 forces of the Army, at the most problematic areas.
- The Fire-Department forces, at the places where the passing of the Fire-Extinguishers is possible.
